Sex work in Switzerland: what the law says in 2026
Minimum age, cantonal duties, rights of clients and sex workers: the essentials of Swiss law, explained simply.
In Switzerland, sex work between consenting adults is legal. The Confederation sets the criminal framework, but the cantons mainly organise the activity: registration, salon permits, zones and hours.
Minimum age: 18, no exceptions
Since 2014 the Criminal Code punishes paying a minor for a sexual act. On our directory, every advertiser must be of age and any suspicious ad can be reported from its page.
Rules that vary by canton
Several cantons, such as Geneva and Vaud, require sex workers to register with the police and set precise conditions for salons. In German-speaking Switzerland, Zurich and Bern mainly regulate venues and street prostitution. Check with your canton before posting an ad.
What it means for clients
